The idea came about after CEO John Brooman went to Budapest in February of 2016 to check out this new sport of ice dragon boating. The rest, as they say, is history.
The inaugural event of the Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival was held on February 18, 2017 at Dows Lake on the Rideau Canal Skateway as part of Canada 150 and Winterlude 2017. This is a first for Ottawa and North America, plus it turned out to be the largest international ice dragon boat festival with 60 teams of paddlers participating.
